Australia’s Journey to NZE Power Systems: Enabling & Monetising Unprecedented Volumes of Demand-side Flexibility
Event Focus: Australia’s power systems continue to decarbonise with the deep deployment of Variable Renewable Energy (VRE) – both centralised and decentralised. As a result, the traditional ‘supply-side’ of our power systems is becoming orders of magnitude more dynamic and volatile.
In this context, cost-effective system operations will increasingly require unprecedented volumes of dispatchable flexible resources on the traditional ‘demand-side’ of the system. Australia's old paradigms of largely 'controlling' demand-side resources will not be adequate to incentivise and activate the massive volumes of flexibility services we require. Beyond 20th century tariff constructs, this will demand dynamic, digital platform-based ‘transactive’ forms of incentivization and automation.
This webinar will focus on the cutting-edge Indra Monash Smart Energy City platform which provides a unique window on Australia’s fast-emerging electricity future. Ultimately such a dynamic grid requires: ‘the right physics-based service at the right time and the right location’, much of which will need to be sourced from millions of privately-owned assets. This advanced digital platform enables and monetises deep demand-side flexibility in a manner consistent with the once-in-a-century scale of change we now face and the 21st century solutions that are required.
